  • Yale New Haven Hospital High School Summer Volunteer Program, 1986-1988
  • Close-Up Foundation, selected for citizen engagement program, 1989

According to Caroline, “When we first moved to Bethany, BCS welcomed my youngest son with open arms. It was a difficult time for our family, as my children had suffered the loss of their father. The BCS community embraced us as we navigated the healing process. Now that my children are older, I want to return to service by working to ensure our wonderful school system continues to provide the best education experience our town has to offer.”

Caroline is a proud single mother of three, with two sons and a daughter. Her oldest is a firefighter/EMT for BVFD and an EMT for Naugatuck EMS; her daughter is a graphic designer who is currently pursuing an MBA. Her youngest is a senior at Amity Regional High School, with an interest in the automotive trade. He is also a junior member of the BVFD.

Caroline moved to Bethany from Woodbridge and has lived here for seven years. She was drawn to Bethany’s small-town charm, knowing that this was the community where she wanted to continue raising her children. According to Caroline, “Bethany is where I bought my first home, and it’s where my heart is.”

When Caroline was diagnosed with cancer, requiring surgery during her first pregnancy, she had to overcome many challenges. Later, she was a dedicated stay-at-home mom for several years before returning to the work force. Her current job in the Cancer Registry field is very rewarding and deeply personal.

Caroline is a strong advocate for creating a safe and nurturing environment for children to develop their capacity for learning and reach their academic potential. Her experiences have shaped her ability to relate to people with vastly different ideas and backgrounds. In this position, she will be able to collaborate with fellow board members to foster the sense of community for the families of Bethany and to build a solid foundation for BCS students on their journey to middle school and the academic world beyond.

  • Yale Law School, Assistant Network Manager, 1999-2004
  • Sacred Heart University, Help Desk Manager, 1998-1999

Joe grew up in Orange and graduated from Amity High School in 1996. He currently resides in Bethany with his wife Jenn, and their two sons, Bobby and William. As a realtor, Joe recognizes that a town’s educational system plays a pivotal role in nurturing a sense of community and enhancing its attractiveness to prospective residents.

In Joe’s view, the most crucial quality for a Board of Education member is the capacity to engage in challenging discussions, while attentively considering diverse viewpoints, all without taking offense or succumbing to emotional reactions in the decision-making process. This skill is one that Joe puts into practice daily when negotiating contracts, an aspect of his work that holds deep emotional significance for his clients.

Joe eagerly anticipates his involvement with the group of candidates on the Republican slate, particularly as member of the local and regional board of education slates. He shares, “all four of our candidates collaborate seamlessly. We grasp the significance of these roles, and genuinely appreciate the trust our community will place in us when they cast their votes this November.”

  • First apartment building purchased 1984
  • Licensed real estate agent, 1987

Susan came to Bethany in the late 1970’s for work, and fell in love with the countryside, hills, and lakes. According to Susan, “I knew immediately that this was where I wanted to live. My husband, James, and I bought our house in 1996 and over 25 years later we could not dream of living anywhere else.”

Susan spent her career helping make successful and mutually beneficial agreements under a basis of honesty, integrity, good will, and equal treatment. Susan has found that modern education has become quite complex, with many facets that are in a constant state of flux. She would like to continue serving to apply simple principles of transparency, common sense and traditional values in encouraging a concentration on teaching the basic skills of reading, writing and arithmetic.

There are many opportunities to get involved and activities to include all. Throughout Donna's children's educational years, she was a very active parent and can honestly say that her daughters have both significantly profited from the Amity School System.

As a former educator with over 40 years of diversified experience working with teachers, parents, students, and college scholars, Donna offers her candidacy for membership on the Amity Board of Education. She has worked on local and state initiatives regarding teacher training, curriculum development, standards review and teacher evaluation, and she has held both educator and administrator roles.

Most importantly, Donna's belief is that all children can learn and must be within a culture that accepts diversity, nurtures the desire to learn, promotes responsible and critical thinking, and fosters creativity. She believes it is our civic responsibility to assure that our students are within an environment that encourages collaboration, clear line of communication, a culture of acceptance, has clear and consistent standards, innovative curriculum, accurate assessment, and effective leadership.

Donna is confident that she would make a positive contribution as a member of the Amity Board of Education.
